Mason Ave Park - It's a disgrace!

10.37.00pm GMT Tue 23rd Dec 2008

What a difference 5 years makes

Cllr Alan Boad has been asking the District Council to replace the damaged play equipment in Mason Avenue park for some months following many complaints from local parents. The answer is always the same, no money available!

A recent look at the play area reveals 1 spring seat and 2 swings, everything else, including the dog fence has been removed. Cllr Boad said, "This play area is a disgrace.

Cllr Boad added, "I suppose getting the swings replaced was a success, but it is nowhere near enough!" The response from the Council is that they are about to start a district wide review of play provision, but that could take over 12 -18 months to complete! In the meantime they are offering supervised play sessions for the February half term.

Cllr Boad said, "This is totally unacceptable, what are the under 10's going to do on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for the next year or more? This is the heart of the area and there is nothing for the under 10's to do! We clearly need additional play equipment before the summer." Cllr. Boad will be taking the matter up further with the Council.

Many local residents have said that it would be a good idea to create a 'friends of the park', like

minded local residents who have an interest in looking after the park and keeping and eye on its' care and development. These range from the very active 'dog walkers' to local neighbours, users, parents and grand parents. We may even be able to raise lottery money for improvements!
